Hi Friends,
So many of the prompts I come up with for both my students and my own writing come from reading. I just finished the most extraordinary book: Girlhood by Melissa Febos. It’s a smart and beautiful book about what it means to grow up in this world as a girl. It’s so well researched and well written. In the first essay, she writes about attending a particularly painful childhood birthday party. Haven’t we all been to (or had) one of these parties?
For this exercise, I’m borrowing from Febos. And you should read her new book!
